Billy "The Kid" McKelvin (Chadwick Boseman): An Africa-American who has always been judged on the color of his skin rather than his talent on the track. He is a humble, educated man who raises up in the ranks as his main racer, Dustin MacBeth, goes out on injury during a practice race and Billy being Dustin's replacement racer goes out and wins the race in 65 laps. Dustin is eyeful to those who want him for the wrong path and doesn't fold on his own path. He doesn't have a good relationship with his gambling father and his unknown mother.
Doug Fletcher (Ian McShane): A race team owner and Billy's boss. He looks for the youngest and most promising and tries to use their spotlight to raise his business rather than caring for his members. Shows Billy his good side as he wants Billy to win him a cup and be part of history. He has a wife who is a Victoria Secret model and loves racing.
Jill Fletcher-Rosie (Geena Davis): Doug's wife and proud racing fan. She grows tired of her husband and hits on other competition to get his attention. She begins to eye Billy as his value turn her on and wants him more when he shoos her away. She causes trouble more than she solves it when Doug asks for a favor.
Sam Brad (Lucas Black): Billy's rival and top racer in the league. Sam likes to think of himself as the next Richard Petty but really is the next Kurt Busch or Carl Edwards with his mouth as he is also known as the Mouth of The South for his Georgia roots and ego, He loves to see Billy try and best him but would love to see him fail even more.
Kenny Grams (Kyle Chandler): Billy pit-boss and mentor. He tries to Billy realize what he has and tries to push Billy into the star he should be. Tough and driven he can be a lot to handle but knows best.
Danni Max (Anthony Mackie): Billy's childhood friend and huge sports reporter for the top sports network. She has grown attracted to Billy but her parents wouldn't approve. She teases the idea of rebelling her parents but thinks of her future as her parents supporting her gets her through. Billy tries to convince her but it works to no dice.
